Ugly driveway? No problem.
Asphalt paving& sealcoatingin Mount Airy, NC.
Mount Airy is the largest town in Surry County and the main reason we're now working south of the state line. It's thirty-five miles from our yard — closer than several of the Virginia towns we've served for years, and an easier run than most of them.

Getting to Mount Airy
Straight down US-52 through Fancy Gap, about thirty-five road miles and fifty minutes from the yard in Austinville. It is a good road the whole way and the descent off the Blue Ridge does most of the work. Practically speaking, Mount Airy is no further from us than Independence is, and the drive is considerably easier.
What the pavement deals with here
This is where the pavement genuinely behaves differently, and it is worth understanding before you decide when to book. Mount Airy sits at roughly 1,050 feet. Our yard is at 1,930, and the towns we work up on the Carroll County plateau are above 2,500. That is a drop of well over a thousand feet across thirty-five miles, and it changes the year. Down here the ground warms earlier in the spring and holds its heat later into the autumn, so the reliable sealcoating window opens sooner and closes later than it does at home. The freeze-thaw cycle — water getting into a crack, freezing, levering the edges apart — runs milder and less often than it does on the plateau. That does not mean pavement lasts forever here. It means the damage tends to come from sun, traffic and standing water rather than from winter, which shifts what is worth doing and when.
What we get called for around Mount Airy
Mount Airy has a real downtown, and downtown commercial parking is a different animal to rural driveway work. Main Street draws steady visitor traffic year round, which means motel, restaurant and church lots that are public-facing and carry more turnover than their size suggests. Lots like that lose their line markings long before the surface underneath gives out, and anything open to the public has to keep its accessible parking correct. Outside town it is Surry County residential — ordinary driveways, some long rural ones, and the same gravel-to-something-better question we spend half our time answering in Virginia.
- Sealcoating
The longer season down here is a genuine advantage. We can seal in Mount Airy at times of year when the ground up on the plateau is still too cold.
- Line Striping
Where this business started, thirty years ago. Downtown and church lots that carry visitor traffic lose their lines first.
- Asphalt Patching
Potholes and broken sections caught early, before water gets into the base and turns a cheap repair into an expensive one.
- ADA Compliance
Any lot open to the public needs correct stall widths, access aisles and signage. Easiest to sort while a lot is being re-striped anyway.
The same crew, thirty-five miles further south
Over thirty years of combined experience paving, sealcoating and striping in Carroll, Grayson and Wythe counties — now licensed and working in North Carolina too.
Nothing about a driveway changes at a state line. The base still has to drain, the sealer still needs warm ground, and we will still tell you plainly when yours does not need doing yet. What does change is the weather window, and that works in your favour down here: at roughly 1,050 feet, Mount Airy is often ready for sealcoat weeks before Hillsville is.
We schedule North Carolina work in blocks rather than running US-52 twice in a week, so a little notice when you book gets you a better date. If a couple of neighbours are thinking about the same job, say so — several drives on one trip is exactly when the distance stops mattering.
Common questions
Mount Airyquestions.
- How long have you been working in Mount Airy?
- We started taking North Carolina work in 2026, after more than thirty years of combined experience in Carroll, Grayson and Wythe counties just up US-52. Same crew, same materials, same standards, and licensed to work in North Carolina.
- Is coming from Virginia going to cost me more?
- No. Mount Airy is thirty-five miles from our yard, which is closer than several Virginia towns we have served for years. What we do ask is a bit of notice where possible, because we schedule North Carolina work in blocks rather than running back and forth across the line.
- When can you sealcoat in Mount Airy?
- Earlier in the spring and later in the autumn than we can at home. At roughly 1,050 feet the ground warms sooner and cools later than it does up on the plateau, so the usable window here is genuinely longer. If you are booking a spring job, Mount Airy is often ready weeks before Hillsville is.
- Do you handle commercial lots as well as driveways?
- Yes. Line striping and lot maintenance is where the business started, and downtown Mount Airy is exactly the kind of public-facing parking that needs it. We will phase the work so you are not closing the whole lot at once.
