Asphalt Paving work by Lines by JD

Asphalt is the workhorse surface for driveways, parking lots and private roads — and when it is laid properly on a solid base, it stays put for decades.

We handle the whole job: grading and preparing the base, laying the hot mix, and compacting it to a tight, even finish that sheds water instead of holding it. The base is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether a driveway lasts twenty years or three. We do not cut corners there.

What goes into a proper job

Most asphalt failures trace back to one of two things: a base that was never built right, or water that had nowhere to go. Before anything is laid, we make sure the ground underneath is compacted and graded to drain. Then the asphalt goes down hot and gets rolled while it is still workable, which is what gives you a dense surface rather than a loose, porous one that ravels apart at the edges.

Because we started out as a line striping crew, edges and finish work are second nature to us. The parts of a paving job people actually notice — clean transitions at the garage, a tidy edge against the grass, no low spots holding puddles — are the parts we care most about.

Keeping it that way

New asphalt looks its best the day it is laid. Sealcoating it after the first year, and then every few years after, is what keeps it black and stops water, oil and UV from breaking down the binder. We would rather sell you a sealcoat every few years than a new driveway every ten.

Common questions

Asphalt Pavingquestions.

How long before I can drive on new asphalt?
You can usually walk on it the same day and drive on it after about 24 to 48 hours, depending on the weather. Keep heavy vehicles and trailers off it for the first few weeks while it fully cures.
Can you pave over my existing driveway?
Sometimes. If the base is still sound, an overlay is a cost-effective option. If the surface is badly broken up or the base has failed, an overlay just hides the problem — we will tell you honestly which one you are looking at.
What time of year is best for paving?
Late spring through early autumn. Asphalt needs warm ground to compact properly, so we schedule around the weather rather than laying it in conditions that will not hold up.

Ugly driveway? No problem.
