Grading & Excavating work by Lines by JD

We also offer grading, trenching, land clearing and the construction of new driveways and parking lots. It is the least visible work we do and the part that decides whether everything laid on top of it lasts.

Water is what destroys pavement. Not traffic, not sun — water sitting where it should not be, working into the base and freezing. Grading is how you get water off a surface and away from a structure, and no amount of quality asphalt makes up for ground that was never shaped to drain.

What we handle

Site preparation and land clearing, cut and fill grading, trenching for utility runs, and new gravel driveways and parking areas built up and compacted so they hold their shape.

If you are planning a new driveway or lot, this is where the job starts. We would rather spend an extra day on the base than come back in three years to explain why a surface failed early.

Existing problems

If you have an area that puddles every time it rains, a driveway washing out, or a low spot that has started breaking up the surface around it, the fix is usually in the ground rather than the pavement. Give us a call and we will come and look at it — grading problems are much cheaper to solve than the damage they cause.

Common questions

Grading & Excavatingquestions.

Do I need grading before paving?
Almost always. Asphalt laid on a base that does not drain will fail no matter how well the surface is put down. Getting the ground right first is what makes the paving last.
Can you fix an area that keeps holding water?
Usually. Standing water is a grading problem, and it is the single most common reason a surface fails early. We will look at where the water is coming from and where it needs to go.
Do you install gravel driveways?
Yes — new gravel driveways and parking areas, properly graded and compacted so they hold up rather than washing out at the first heavy rain.

Ugly driveway? No problem.
